A photo of a New York City police officer kneeling down to give a barefoot homeless man in Times Square a pair of boots on a cold November night is melting even the iciest New Yorkers' hearts online.

On Nov. 14, NYPD officer Lawrence DePrimo, who was on counterterrorism duty in Times Square, saw the older homeless man without shoes sitting on 42nd Street. DePrimo, 25, left and then returned with a pair of $100 boots he bought at a nearby Skechers store.

"It was freezing out, and you could see the blisters on the man's feet," DePrimo, a three-year veteran of the department who lives with his parents on Long Island, told the New York Times. "I had two pairs of socks, and I was still cold."

The random act of kindness was captured by Jennifer Foster, a tourist from Florence, Ariz., who was visiting the city. Foster, communications director for the Pinal County Sheriff's Office in Arizona, emailed the photo to the NYPD with a note commending DePrimo.

"The officer said, 'I have these size 12 boots for you, they are all-weather. Let's put them on and take care of you,'" Foster wrote. "The officer squatted down on the ground and proceeded to put socks and the new boots on this man.

"I have been in law enforcement for 17 years," she continued. "I was never so impressed in my life. ... It is important, I think, for all of us to remember the real reason we are in this line of work. The reminder this officer gave to our profession in his presentation of human kindness has not been lost."
 

Foster's photo was posted on the NYPD's Facebook page on Tuesday, where it received more than 320,000 "likes," 77,000 "shares" and 20,000 comments—most of them praising DePrimo, who seems to have restored Facebook's faith in humanity.

"This is one hell of a police officer," Desiree Wright-Borden wrote.

"Wow," Jack Horton wrote. "It's nice to know there are still good people out there."

"Angels truly do walk on earth!!!" Charlene Hoffman-Pestell wrote.

Some commenters, though, were skeptical, saying the photo could have been staged.

"Clever stunt!" Louis Zehmke wrote. "The hobo is 'parked' at the entrance of a shoe shop."

But Foster claims DePrimo had no idea he was being photographed: "

The officer expected NOTHING in return and did not know I was watching."

COP UPHOLDS FIRST AMMENDMENT ... BECOMES FREE SPEECH INTERNET ICON

Sheriff Stan Lenic, the cop who stood up for the First Amendment by refusing to impede the free speech rights of activists at Albany International Airport, has become an Internet icon, with messages of support flooding in to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office and Lenic being honored with a commendation.

A video that has now gone viral on You Tube shows Lenic refusing to follow the demands of Albany Airport’s PR director Doug Myers in having activists Jason Bermas and Ashley Jessica identified, detained or removed for handing out flyers warning travelers about the dangers of airport body scanners as part of the Opt Out and Film campaign.

“Obviously this is your constitutional right, OK? As far as you’re concerned, you’re not breaking any laws. That’s what we want to get across to you guys,” Lenic told the activists, dismissing efforts by Myers to have the two kicked out of the airport.

When Myers attempted to have the activists identify themselves, winking at Sheriff Lenic as he demanded Lenic take their IDs, Lenic fired back, stating, “If I was to ask for his identification he does not have to give it to me because he’s not doing anything wrong.”

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office has since been bombarded with hundreds of positive emails and calls from liberty lovers championing Sheriff Lenic for his fine work in defending the First Amendment against petty enforcers like Doug Myers.

Comments on YouTube were also overwhelmingly supportive of Sheriff Lenic.

“Finally a cop that does his job properly. Makes a change from all of the bad cop films we’ve seen lately. Hats off to the man,” wrote one.

“This Sheriff is an absolute paragon for justice,” added another.

Lenic already has his own Facebook page where people are reposting the video and urging Lenic to run for Mayor.

“That’s a little overwhelming. I mean, I was doing my job I felt I was doing the right thing protecting people’s First Amendment rights,” Lenic told NewsChannel 13.

Lenic later emailed Jason Bermas the following message;

“I am overwhelmed by the support your viewers have given me. I hope other fellow officers will see this and not view the freedom of speech as a threat, but an opportunity to show the professionalism that law enforcement should be held to. I remember the day I was sworn in, and I remember that I am supposed to protect the constitution of the United States. I am proud to be a Deputy Sheriff, and try to do my job to the best of my ability so help me God.”

Lenic also told Bermas that his superiors were considering giving him an official commendation for his exemplary actions in defending the constitutional rights he swore to uphold.

The Krona, the currency of Iceland devaluates and the stock market stops. The country is in bankruptcy2008. The citizens protest in front of parliament and manage to get new elections that make the resignation of the prime minister and his whole government.

The country is in bad economic situation.A law proposes paying back the debt to Great Britain and Holland through the payment of 3,500 million euros, which will be paid by the people of Iceland monthly during the next 15 years, with a 5.5% interest.2010. The people go out in the streets and demand a referendum. In January 2010 the president denies the approval and announces a popular meeting.In March the referendum and the denial of payment is voted in by 93%. Meanwhile the government has initiated an investigation to bring to justice those responsible for the crisis, and many high level executives and bankers are arrested. The Interpol dictates an order that make all the implicated parties leave the country. In this crisis an assembly is elected to rewrite a new Constitution which can include the lessons learned from this, and which will substitute the current one (a copy of the Danish Constitution). 25 citizens are chosen, with no political affiliation, out of the 522 candidates.

For candidacy all that was needed was to be an adult and have the support of 30 people. The constitutional assembly starts in February of 2011 to present the ‘carta magna’ from the recommendations given by the different assemblies happening throughout the country. It must be approved by the current Parliament and by the one constituted through the next legislative elections. So in summary of the Icelandic revolution: -resignation of the whole government -nationalization of the bank. -referendum so that the people can decide over the economic decisions. -incarcerating the responsible parties -rewriting of the constitution by its people Have we been informed of this through the media? Has any political program in radio or TV commented on this? No! The Icelandic people have been able to show that there is a way to beat the system and has given a democracy lesson to the world. Please spread the news as Iceland is the role model now although sooner or later, the banksters will start demilishing their nationalized bank.

WALMART and 112 Dead Factory Workers

How many more tragic disasters await so multinational corporations can offshore jobs, exploit deplorable working conditions overseas, and continue filling the corporate-consumerist troughs?

112 Bangladeshi workers perished in a factory fire last week - the cause is still under investigation. And as the tragedy made its way across international news headlines, it quickly became clear the factory was producing clothing for mega-retailer WalMart in the United States.

It also claims it will work to improve conditions for overseas workers - but if this were true, and overseas workers were working with similar wages under similar "acceptable" conditions found in America, why outsource jobs in the first place? Clearly Walmart is just paying lip service.

Associated Press (AP) reported in their article, "Walmart Admits Bangladesh Factory Was Making Clothing For Retailer Before Fire," that: 

The garment factory in Bangladesh where a weekend fire killed at least 112 people had been making clothes for Wal-Mart without the giant U.S. retailer's knowledge, Wal-Mart said.

The report also stated: 

"Today, we have terminated the relationship with that supplier," America's biggest retailer said in a statement Monday. "The fact that this occurred is extremely troubling to us, and we will continue to work across the apparel industry to improve fire safety education and training in Bangladesh."

Regarding the conditions of the factory, AP reported: 

Survivors of the weekend fire said an exit door was locked, fire extinguishers didn't work and apparently were there just to impress inspectors, and that when the fire alarm went off, bosses told workers to return to their sewing machines. Victims were trapped or jumped to their deaths from the eight-story building, which had no emergency exits.

However, what Walmart hopes the public never figures out is that if ever the mega-retailer manages to bring standards and wages up to what the West would consider "acceptable," their offshore supply chain would no longer benefit them and their profit margins - jobs would be better off kept on American soil, where they began in the first place. Clearly Walmart has no intention of "improving" anything except perhaps better obfuscating their supply chain from the general public. 


Additionally, the mega-retailer's alibi that it "didn't know" the factory was still producing clothing for their stores is both irresponsible and unacceptable. In order to circumvent safety concerns and liability, Walmart may have just as easily "known" and set up the arrangement to maintain plausible deniability while maintaining its profitable supply chain. Walmart is responsible for its supply chain, and if is difficult to keep track of factories scattered across the planet to fill stores in America, then that's all the more reason to bring the jobs back home.

Don't Just Boycott Walmart - Replace it Permanently 

Walmart's questionable supply chain is not a new topic, it is simply back in the news because of a particularly tragic repercussion of its habitual disregard for human life. Campaigns to force Walmart, or Apple, or any other large multinational corporation to reform their behavior has only caused them to bury their abuses deeper, further from necessary oversight. It is only tragedies like the fire in Bangladesh that momentarily bring the truth of Walmart's continued, willful negligence to the surface

'Pigs have been blown up, guinea pigs poisoned and marmosets given anthrax in germ and chemical warfare experiments at the top secret British military research base, it has emerged.

The campaign group that uncovered the details of the 'cruel and grotesque' research projects by scientists at the Porton Down labs in Wiltshire said that in some cases it appeared the animals had been given nothing to ease their pain.

Many of the experiments involved substantial suffering and led to the death of the animals, the British Union for Abolition of Vivisection's investigation found.'

Live pigs were blasted with explosives and forced to inhale mustard gas, and monkeys infected with anthrax during "disturbing and cruel" experiments at Porton Down, it was claimed.

Scientists at the top secret military research establishment in Wiltshire were accused of causing "substantial" suffering to animals in the past two years.

The alleged evidence was collected by the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) from papers published in scientific journals.

In one study, reported in the Annals of Surgery in 2010, explosives were said to have been detonated eight feet from pigs that had been anaesthetised, wrapped in blankets, and placed on trolleys.

The animals were said to have suffered blast injuries and blood loss, after which an attempt was made to resuscitate them. Eleven out of 28 died, it was claimed.

Other pigs, which were eventually killed, suffered severe lung damage after inhaling phosgene and mustard gas, two lethal chemical weapons, according to the BUAV which added a number of experiments were funded by US defence agencies, or conducted in collaboration with them.

In a further experiment, funded by the US Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa), marmosets were infected with anthrax before being treated with an antibiotic, it was alleged. Four animals died and those still alive at the end of the study were killed and dissected, it was claimed.

This study was published in the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents last year. There were no reports of pain relief or other supportive measures and the monkeys must have "suffered immensely" before experiencing a painful death, said the agency.

Michelle Thew, chief executive of the BUAV, said: "Although supporting the need to ensure the safety of soldiers and civilians in an increasingly dangerous world, the BUAV is opposed to deliberately causing suffering and death to animals in such disturbing and cruel experiments. We believe it is totally unacceptable to treat animals in this way."

The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) based at Porton Down said: "The remit to provide safe and effective protective measures for the UK and its Armed Forces could not, currently, be achieved without the use of animals. DSTL operates in strict accordance with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act."

There are signs everywhere now that a political logjam has been broken now that the new Chinese government has been installed and that swift changes will unfolding worldwide in the coming weeks. The signs include a massive purge of the Nazi (Sabbatean) faction in the US, Europe and, coming soon, Japan. In addition, US troops have been placed in Egypt, on Israel’s border, in order to force the Zionist terrorist regime to stop its superstitious, apocalyptic attempts to start WW3. We also have the pope announcing publicly that Jesus was not born on December 25, and that Christmas was based on a pagan solar festival.

In Europe six members of the P2 Freemason lodge were arrested by Berlusconi allies in what is expected to be a futile attempt by Berlusconi to place himself back into power, Vatican sources say. In Russia, meanwhile, a purge has begun, starting with a top general, after a recent attempt to assassinate President Putin with Polonium, according to European intelligence sources.

The efforts to kick-start the new financial system have also moved into high gear.

The moves to start the new financial system are taking place on several fronts. In Indonesia, Neil Keenan continues to try to finalize his attempt to get approval to mobilize the assets behind the global collateral accounts but seems to be running into interference from a rival faction. In Japan, Shinzo Abe, the man expected to be Prime Minister after December 16th, has talked about changing the Bank of Japan law to access funds. In addition to that, a major move is being made by the North American oligarchs to try to get Asian countries to switch from using Middle-Eastern oil to North American oil. This would help reduce the overall North American trade deficit with the region and provide hard cash to continue funding US government international operations. It would also help remove cash flow to the war-mongering factions.

The purge of the war-mongering faction in the US has started with the firing of 24 generals but that is just a beginning say officials affiliated with the FBI. Such a move would mark a clear indication the Pentagon does not view China as a threat but rather as a partner. Another visible sign of this change is the fact the Chinese were able to “convince” the makers of the movie “Red Dawn” to make the villains North Koreans instead of Chinese. The Soviets never had such clout when the original “Red Dawn” was made during the cold war.

In Russia, the heart of the former Soviet Union, the purge of remnant high level Nazi agents begun by Putin got a reboot recently after some top generals were arrested after an attempt to poison Putin with Polonium. It was Cuban agent, who also protected Fidel Castro from many poisoning attempts, who alerted Putin to the plot, according to a European intelligence source. The recent illness of Fidel Castro was also due to a poisoning attempt, this source says.
The Netherlands intelligence services have also joined the intensified hunt to purge Europe of Nazi influence. New leads have also come to light in the hunt for the murderers of Dr. Michael Van de Meer. A lady going by the internet name of Christine N. tried to convince this writer, after Van de Meer died, that she had “confirmed” that he had merely been given a new identity. It turns out Christine N. fronts for David Eisenhower, the grandson of President Eisenhower, according to CIA sources. David Eisenhower needs to be questioned about why he put out this disinformation. Eisenhower has been illegally trading Kennedy for years now. Van de Meer was killed just before he was going try to legally trade some Kennedy bonds.
Bush Nazi stooge Mitt Romney, meanwhile, has been linked to the daughter of former KGB head Yuri Andropov and the looted Alpha Omega funds of the former Soviet Union. The Alpha Omega fund was the only route companies in the West could use to finance trade with the Soviet Bloc during the cold war. Yurin Andropov supervised Alpha Omega until his death. After he died, these funds were looted by Bush/Gorbachev et al, leading to the fall of the Soviet Union.

Mike Cottrell, who was part of that operation, was in the room when my colleague Christopher Story was fed the poisoned sandwich that killed him. Cottrell has also been linked to attempts to frame this writer as a drug dealer. This in turn links him with “Ambassador Stevens” and the March 11, 2011 nuclear terror attack on Japan.

The trail of all of these actors of course ultimately leads to the Bush family and other high level Nazis. The Bushes have been eavesdropped as saying that Neil Keenan and Benjamin Fulford were “problems.” The Bushes have been known to assassinate such “problem” people with great frequency. What the Bushes need to realize that their entire family is being followed and listened to 24/7. A lot of people would like to completely eliminate from all levels of existence the entire Bush bloodline. These people have been following this bloodline throughout its name changes from Peci to Pearce to Scherff to Bush. Our suggestion to the Bushes is to lay low.
All of these cabalists need to realize the FBI and other agencies are after them and will be a lot less forgiving than the White Dragon Society. The WDS is only asking that they testify before a South African style truth and reconciliation committee before the time where that is possible runs out.

Speaking about time running out, the recent statement by the pope that the church does not know the birthday of Jesus Christ and that Christmas was timed to coincide with a pagan solar new year’s festival, could be very significant. The pope also said Christ was probably born a few years earlier than the Christian calendar year 0. This may mean the Vatican has agreed to the idea of starting a new world calendar and turning December 25th, 2012 into January 1st of the year 0.

A House of Lords member in Britain has shocked rivals by suggesting that a neutron bomb could be dropped on border regions in Afghanistan, such as the one next to Pakistan.

The member of the upper house of the British parliament, Lord Gilbert, said during a debate on getting rid of nuclear weapons across the world that borders like the one between Afghanistan and Pakistan could be made safe by dropping ERRB bombs, otherwise known as neutron bombs in those areas, reports said.

“Your Lordships may say that this is impractical, but nobody lives up in the mountains on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan except for a few goats and a handful of people herding them. If you told them that some ERRB warheads were going to be dropped there and that it would be a very unpleasant place to go, they would not go there,” Gilbert said.

Gilbert's controversial comments have left the members of the House of Lords shocked.

Gilbert has also been deeply criticized with Lords dismissing his suggestion that it was possible to drop such a bomb in the Pak-Afghan border areas.

Former Labour defence secretary Lord Browne of Ladyton, reacted to Gilbert’s views accusing him of being at his “most challenging and contrarian.”

Meanwhile Lord Wallace of Saltaire said the Government did not share Lord Gilbert’s disturbing views on the sensitive issue.

Taxi to the Dark Side is a 2007 documentary film directed by American filmmaker Alex Gibney, and produced by Eva Orner and Susannah Shipman, which won the 2007 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.[1] It focuses on the murder of an Afghan taxi driver named Dilawar,[2] beaten to death by American soldiers while being held in extrajudicial detention at the Parwan Detention Facility.

Taxi to the Dark Side examines the USA’s policy on torture and interrogation in general, specifically the CIA’s use of torture and their research into sensory deprivation. The film includes opposition to the use of torture from its political and military opponents, as well as the defense of such methods; attempts by Congress to uphold the standards of the Geneva Convention forbidding torture; and popularization of the use of torture techniques in shows such as 24.

It is part of the Why Democracy? series, which consists of ten documentary films from around the world questioning and examining contemporary democracy. Earlier this week, I was privileged to attend a screening of Alex Gibney's latest piece of documentary brilliance, "Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God." It's released today. To be honest I want to see it one more time before writing a length about it. It's about the Catholic Church's sexual abuse crisis - and the criminal conspiracy reaching right to the current Pope that will one day surely bring the whole house of cards down, so that the church can be rebuilt amid the ruins created by deeply sick and psychologically crippled men at its core. No one is more implicated in covering up this institutionalization of sexual abuse and secrecy than the man who controlled and oversaw every single case of clerical sex abuse in the world from 2001 onwards: Pope Benedict XVI, who knows more than anyone else on the planet about the horrifying psycho-sexual truth beneath the ermined, bejewelled veneer.

One feature of this last election was the complete failure of the Vatican hierarchs to dictate the vote to the flock. American Catholics voted for Obama over Romney. The docile fools in dresses - from Dolan to Chaput - were ignored as they now routinely are, and should be. They actually think they still have moral authority. But moral authority has to be earned with each generation, and the corruption in the Vatican is so deep and so rotten and so incapable of self-reflection it has effectively created two Catholic churches in America: those few in the pews who still listen to the bishops and those who exist almost in a parallel church, focused on their own parish, their own priest, and their own faith, which remains, for many of us, undimmed.

But every now and again, that parallel church actually encounters - and cannot elide - the hierarchy. In Minnesota, where a third of the population is Catholic, the hierarchy insisted that the state amend its constitution to keep gay couples out of civil society and civil marriage. The hierarchy failed - as miserably as they failed in their trumped up "war on religion" nonsense. The Amendment didn't pass. You cannot be exposed as an institution that is responsible for covering up the rape and torture of thousands of children and have any moral authority when it comes to the constitutional equality of gay citizens or the contraceptives that 99 percent of Catholic American women use at some point.

And so in Minnesota, a 17-year-old Catholic, Lennon Cihack, who goes to mass weekly, and who was diligently preparing for his confirmation, posted on his Facebook page a picture of himself and a poster opposing the Amendment. His mother is then called into the rectory by the local priest and told that the confirmation cannot occur. Then she is told that the entire family is now barred from communion. She appeals to the bishop. He tells her that if Lennon stands in front of the whole congregation and denounces marriage equality, he can be confirmed. The priest in question has denied barring Lennon from confirmation, but does not dispute any of the facts of the case. Meanwhile, of course, Lennon's Facebook page is brimming with likes from his class-mates who are still being confirmed.

This is where we are. It feels like the last days of the Soviet Union. And I believe the mother, not the priest. Given what we now know about the hierarchy's corruption, isn't that the default position?

Children in Gaza describe living under Israeli  siege and attacks as worse than being in prison.   UN Committee on the Rights of the Child said that recent fighting will result in "deep trauma" for Gaza's youth [Reuters] BEIT LAHIYA, GAZA - The only protection the Awajaa family has against the Israeli rockets is a thin tarpaulin, stretched out over a small plot of land. The tent, where they have been living on and off since their house was turned to rubble in the 2008-09 Israeli war on Gaza, is one of the first houses on the border, located a mere few hundred meters away from Israel. “We are the first people to be attacked, and we are the people who can’t escape, as it is just empty lands around us,” said 15-year-old Omsiyat, the eldest of seven children. Omsiyat considers her family and neighbours also to be victims of Israeli aggression, as their proximity to the border forces them to be one of the most vulnerable targets of attacks. “This is not a victory, because [the Israelis] are destroying Gaza,” she said. “Yes, we scared them, but they still inflicted damage on us. This is not how we have a victory. “We did not get two centimetres from Israel. How is this a victory?” ‘I don’t want to die’ The Israeli attacks on Gaza, which lasted eight days and came to an end with an Israeli-instigated ceasefire on Wednesday evening, killed a total of 162 Palestinians, including more than 40 children. In Omsiyat’s opinion, the armed resistance, while having made some achievements, also put civilians in a very dangerous situation, making them the largest casualties of the war. "We are older than our age because we have to take care of each other in these situations. There are definitely psychological consequences to what has been happening to us.”  - Sana Al Daaour, 13 “I don’t want to die, and I don’t want anyone else to die, and there is a strong possibility we can be killed.” While Gaza is often described as an open-air prison due to the crippling siege imposed by Israel, she says the word "prison" is not enough. “If there was a stronger word than prison, then this is where we are. In a prison you can move around, here you cannot,” she said. “If you are in a prison, you do not get bombed. Here we are in a prison and we get bombed.” Awajaa, Omsiyat’s mother, described how her children would clamber on top of her as the missiles fell around them, too afraid to sleep. Four-year-old Zakriyat would cry all the time, insisting her parents lie next to her. Ten-year-old Hala spent most of the time under a blanket. Three-year-old Layali would be too afraid to move from the bed to the kitchen for food. Six-year-old Diaa, who suffers from hearing and speech problems as a result of the 2008-09 war, has started wetting the bed. “Diaa keeps asking if the new home we get will be bombed,” she said. “He keeps asking us to tell the Israelis not to hit our new home.” ‘They were more scared’ For 11-year-old Khadra Al Daaour and her five siblings, the fear and sleepless nights were bearable knowing the Israelis were more afraid than they were. “We tried to make ourselves calm, we would draw, we would write, we would make our mother tell us funny stories,” she said. “Of course we were scared, but the Israelis were more scared. “This makes us feel stronger, and pushes us forward.” Her 13-year-old sister Sana was keen to point out the situation for the children of Gaza is unique in comparison to children elsewhere in the world. For her, they are forced to mature beyond their years. “We are older than our age because we have to take care of each other in these situations,” she said, explaining that despite this fact, there are still psychological issues as a result. “There are definitely psychological consequences to what has been happening to us.” “Some of my friends get so stressed because of the situation, they don’t stop talking until they’ve completely emptied their thoughts. They just want to get rid of everything inside,” she described. “Others stop talking altogether.” For Khadra, the best distraction is to write and to draw. “I write poems, and I draw,” she said. “Tanks, planes in the sky, children escaping, our resistance carrying guns, these are all things we draw.” “Right now, we’re making fun of the fact the Israelis were more scared than us,” she said giggling. An abnormal situation Mustafa El Masri, a psychiatrist who works with the World Health Organisation, said in such hostile and abnormal situations, it is important for parents and teachers to keep talking to the children, explain to them what is going on, and listen to what they have to say. “Depending on the age of the child, parents need to explain what is going on in very honest terms, and to correct misconceptions rather than impose certain views,” he said. Follow the latest developments in the ongoing conflict http://www.aljazeera.com/ “The culture here is very advanced in the concepts of liberation, self-determination, and right to exist ... therefore, the more parents are aware of this, and transmitting this to their children, the more the children understand and can remain calm.” There are two stages of reaction after such hostilities; the biological, which focuses on self-preservation, and the ‘meaning-making’ stage, where children attempt to digest and understand what has happened, what their role is, and why they are in such a place. “At the moment, what we see is a ‘normal’ reaction towards the war, such as the inability to sleep, being afraid, and apprehensive,” El Masri said. “If this persists beyond the shock stage, then it needs to be looked into professionally.” For him, the most important is that parents do not lie to their children, as this is the moment when children are attempting to build their own concepts and values. “Children in Gaza are not naïve like children in other countries,” he said. “They are very politically aware. Parents should listen to them and answer their questions, no matter how difficult.” He was keen to point out that having open discussions with children does not equate to normalising conflict and war. “It is not normal that a person, with his children, be targeted by bombs and simply vanish,” he said. “But it is normal to learn how to prevent it. What we are doing here is coping with an abnormal situation.” Omsiyat, who wants to be a journalist when she grows up, knows the experiences they have shared among themselves as children will remain with them forever. “We think and we talk about everything else in the world, but the one thing that connects us all together is war,” she said. A Texas high school student will be allowed to continue going to class for now despite her refusal to cooperate with a program that forces pupils to be mandatorily tracked with computer chips.

Andrea Hernandez was told she’d be expelled from John Jay High School’s Science and Engineering Academy in San Antonio starting next week if she insists any further on disobeying a new policy that requires students to wear ID badges equipped with tiny Radio Frequency Identification (“RFID”) chips. Now attorneys with the Rutherford Institute say Hernandez has been granted a temporary restraining order that will prohibit the Northside Independent School District from relocating the student to another facility.

“The court’s willingness to grant a temporary restraining order is a good first step, but there is still a long way to go — not just in this case, but dealing with the mindset, in general, that everyone needs to be monitored and controlled,” Rutherford Institute President John Whitehead says in a statement.

“Regimes in the past have always started with the schools, where they develop a compliant citizenry. These ‘Student Locator’ programs are ultimately aimed at getting students used to living in a total surveillance state where there will be no privacy, and wherever you go and whatever you text or email will be watched by the government.”

Starting in September, students at John Jay and one other area school were asked to wear ID badges that broadcast their location so educators can keep more accurate attendance records and, ideally, be provided with more funding. Hernandez refused to cooperate right off the bat, however, a maneuver that she said landed her in hot water with educators almost immediately.

"I had a teacher tell me I would not be allowed to vote because I did not have the proper voter ID," she told WND. "I had my old student ID card which they originally told us would be good for the entire four years we were in school. He said I needed the new ID with the chip in order to vote."

Earlier this month, the parents of John Jay students were told that pupils are required to carry the badges, and that Hernandez would be expelled starting Nov. 26 if she continues to protest.

“There is something fundamentally disturbing about this school district’s insistence on steamrolling students into complying with programs that have nothing whatsoever to do with academic priorities and everything to do with fattening school coffers,” Whitehead said after the school issued their warning.

“By virtue of the First Amendment, students in our society are at liberty to conscientiously choose which governmental programs they will support and which they will oppose. It’s a sad day in America when school officials deny someone an education simply because she stands up for what she believes in.”

According to San Antonio’s KENS5 News, a judge gave Hernandez a temporary restraining order from the school district and ruled on Wednesday that the principal's orders to make the surveillance mandatory were a violation of the student's speech and religion. On her part, she equates wearing a badge — RFID equipped or not — with the biblical “mark of the beast.”

A hearing on the preliminary injunction will take place next week, at which point the future of the tracking program will be brought into question.
